Assist Personal Activities refers to support provided to individuals with a disability to help them with daily personal activities. These activities are essential for the individual's well-being, independence, and participation in the community. The support is tailored to the specific needs and goals of the participant, with a focus on enhancing their ability to perform daily tasks.

Which is different from Assist with Personal Activities. This group includes urinary catheter management, subcutaneous injections, complex wound management, medication management, disposable of waste, infectious, or hazardous substances, and implement restrictive practices

The high intensity support skills descriptors (skills descriptors) describe the skills and knowledge that NDIS providers should ensure their workers have when supporting participants who rely on high intensity daily personal activities. These supports present some of the highest risks for participants.

Key Components:

Personal Care:
  • Assistance with grooming, bathing, toileting, and dressing.
  • Support with maintaining personal hygiene and appearance.
Mobility and Communication:
  • Aid in mobility, including transfers and assistance with using mobility aids.
  • Assistance with communication, including support with verbal and non-verbal communication methods.
Mealtime Support:
  • Assistance with meal preparation and planning.
  • Support during mealtime, including feeding assistance if required.
Health and Medication Support:
  • Assistance with managing medications.
  • Support with health-related activities as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
Household Tasks:
  • Assistance with light household chores such as cleaning and organizing.
  • Support in maintaining a safe and comfortable living environment.
